5th day since Serenity Peak.
Last night’s campfire consisted of a debate between a drunk Grisk and a drunk Briar. The two of them seem to get along well, no matter how silly a friendship that is.
Today was highlighted by being chased by a pack of five Hell Hounds. They’re fairly common where I’m from, but there really shouldn’t have been any around Kaldunrum. Must investigate this later.
Both of my prepared Acid’s were gone within seconds of their appearance, to little effect, and since we’re fighting creatures of fire, the firebreathing potions I’ve got were completely useless. With my limited sword skills, I was able to defend myself from one of the hounds until I had backup.
Sometime during the fight, Short Tankard (Apparently her name actually has short in it, I thought that was just a crack at her race…) jumped back out of the trees and helped us out with a few arrows from her hand crossbows, but the real highlight seemed to be Briar and her strange music.
As soon as the fight started, she commenced playing her lute, and then ran away from us as one of the Hell Hounds set its sight on her. Not too long later, the music changed, and that hound turned around and dashed directly at the side of one of it’s brothers. To our horror and delight, they kept fighting until we managed to defeat the other three. Badly wounded in their fight with each other, and with us regrouped, we were able to make short work of them.
Hell Hounds, being exotic creatures of fire, seemed to be a neat payday to our bard, who in her haste, ruined three of the five pelts. Havelock, the ranger, managed to skin the fourth, and Naka, the fifth. Noting their use for my potions, I went through and removed all of their flame glands, and collected the teeth of one of the animals.
We backtracked a portion of a mile before setting camp, and I lent the tools to Briar for some stew. We made sure she didn’t use any crazy seasoning this time, just to be safe. Briar pulled down a squirrel, and asked it a few questions, how silly. From his explanation of the conversation, that pack of Hell Hounds was the only one around, and arrived only recently.
